Bangalore India Tourism

Bangalore is a city of contrasts, going by several other aliases: India’s Silicon Valley, Pub City, Shopper’s Paradise, Garden City, Air-conditioned City, Gourmet’s Delight, Pub Hopper’s Paradise and Shopper’s Hot Spot. Bangalore has been extolled in a dozen ways. The city not only plays host to several international IT companies, public sector enterprises, defence organisations, and reputed educational and research institutions, but also lays claim to being the hub of India’s emerging biotech industry.

Located 949m above sea level in South India on the Deccan Plateau, Bangalore enjoys a salubrious climate throughout the year. The city boasts of spacious gardens, parks, tree-lined avenues, a profusion of flowering trees, lakes, and parks, earning it the sobriquet of “Garden City.” The once-sedate cantonment settlement of the British has now spread way beyond the mud fort and the four towers constructed by Kempegowda in 1537. With its booming economy and racy lifestyle, the capital of Karnataka has metamorphosed from a sleepy Garden City into one of India’s fastest growing cities.

Bluechip Technology
Bangalore is India’s Silicon Valley, ranked by Newsweek as one of the top 10 tech cities in the world. The city’s oddyssey from Garden City to I.T. Capital of India began in 1984; by the end of 2001, Bangalore played host to close to 1000 I.T. companies handling total projects worth US $1.6 billion. Bangalore boasts world-class development facilities and training infrastructure, and has established a reputation for providing quality I.T. solutions to countries all over the world - growth in software exports touched a whopping 73 percent during the year 2000-01. Homegrown software giants like Infosys and Wipro are headquartered in Bangalore, and compete side by side with some of the best-known I.T. brands in the world.
